Well I was skimming through a Linux magazine at Barnes and Noble while drinking green tea and wondering how my life would've turned out had I developed telekinesis.
__________________Anyway I was reading about Virtualization to run another OS inside windows so I could potentially run Windows XP inside a sleek 'n' sexy Linux and play my games!! Yayz although from what I read (And automatically assumed) is that there would be performance issues...my only question is how big? I've got the dual core CPU and the sexy GFX card so what now? (P.S. I am reading up right now on it, just posting this to kill time) ![]()

You still wouldn't be able to get things like DirectX to run properly though b/c of the *virtual* graphics.

The gist of the problem Leck is that while your hardware might be powerful enough to compensate for the performance hit, the drivers that are used by whatever vistualization program you'd use are generic "filler" drivers, much like the default vesa drivers that come with your linux distro. They cannot offer 3d acceleration.

You can run XP, but theres no 3D support.
Just use wine and try installing D3D9

Basically, the 3D rendering libraries from DirectX.

My dreams were shattered as well when I first learned that 3D acceleration could not be achieved in a VM. That's the perfect word to describe it: shattered dreams.

it's actually better to just run the games in wine, rather than a VM.
