The listed programs work fine on 64-bit Linux, so go for it if you want.

I never had any problems with 64-bit mepis, but I was hardly a regular user of it. But there really is no real reason for 64-bit if you don't have more than 4gb of RAM.

I personally have not used a 32-bit *nix OS so I couldn't tell ya.
But I do feel that 64-bit is a lot faster in terms of XP vs Hardy 64-bit... Too bad I haven't gotten the chance to sit down and play some games on it.

I advise you to test it out before completely "switching."

Some of the Windows native codecs don't work on 64bit Linux yet, and no Java plugins for browsers neither. Those are like the two biggest issues I have with 64bit Linux at the moment.

I havent had any problems with 64-bit Linux since early on in the adoption cycle. XPx64 was a slightly harder battle though..
I'd say go for it!
