Oh man, this is the first time that I've ever seen cross-distro hate. Seriously, one of the reasons that I've loved Linux so far is that everyone that I've seen, despite what distro they have, are supportive of the other distros. So I'm just going to have to ask, don't hate on Ubuntu. It's a great distro. You may prefer mint, but any linux user is a good linux user. I, personally, love Gentoo, but I'll always help an ubuntu user if I can. So please, don't hate.

Lol, I see Ubuntu hate all the time. Personally I have Ubuntu on the laptop because I can't be bothered with all the setting up and learning yet, I just wanted something that didn't gradually degrade like an organic object, like XP did.

The only place that I can imagine ubuntu hate coming from would be those Linux Elitists, the kind that think that if you don't use a command line for everything that you don't belong on a computer. For alot of people, ubuntu is a gateway to the more complex linux distros. Take me, for instance. A month and a half ago, I installed Ubuntu. Two weeks later, I installed Arch linux. Now, I'm a full-time Gentoo user, on my sig rig, at least. ( I'm currently stuck in my bed, and this laptop has ubuntu on it).

I wish i could use more Linux, unfortunately most of my apps only run in Windows, and the ones that don't, i don't really have the time to sit down and try to get everything running in Mint. Now i'm trying Arch.

Fedora 9 (Sulphur) 64-bit here.

And, I love the command line. It's very often easier and/or faster to get something done than clicking on the mouse all over the place.

It's about control. The (Unix) command line gives you ultimate control over your computer. (Which is why the Windoze command line is so horrible; it doesn't give you much in the way of capability.)
