hay i wrecked my install of ubuntu and im using a live cd to back up my files and i want to backup my bookmarks and cookies does anyone know where they are stored.

You gotta export your bookmark list, it'll ask you where you want to place it.

~/.mozilla/firefox/Random_nums.default
In there you will find a bookmarks.html file. Also there might be another folder named bookmarkbackups and it would have some .json files that you'd be able to import into firefox(Think that might only be in minefield(developement firefox)). Most of your preferences are saved in a hidden file or folder in your home directory.

If you are going to install again, I'd suggest a separate /home partition. That way things like this can be avoided.
