Default OSS audio problems

Got it installed just fine with my X-FI. When I first installed it sound worked fine. After restart all I can hear is the startup/shutdown sounds. No other programs take use of the OSS driver. How do I make them do so?

And is there an OSS gstreamer plugin? Id like it if so because I cant use my keyboards audio control. Its annoying.

If the previous sound system was alsa, you have to change the output driver for your software. This is done through config files (located in your home directory and starding with a dot, some in /etc), or the properties of the program.

Theres no config files for limewire, or movie player anywhere that I see.
No folder for VLC either, and cant find a config file for the game openarena.
Any ideas?

--Changed sound preferences from OSS to autodetect..movie player is working atleast now. Ill try more stuff and report back.
Weird?

There is a gstreamer OSS plugin - it should be in your distro's repositories (if using Ubuntu as in your sig, you'll want gstreamer-oss). Also, I am tempted to say Limewire uses Gstreamer, so once you get the plugin set up you should have both those issues resolved.

System: Linux exclusive? I think so.

Okay cool. So far movie player, startup sounds, and pidgin sound works.
Firefox/flash stuff and openarena does not. Limewire crashes from it I assume.

I already checked for gstreamer-oss and there is no such package..

OT: Is there a memory leak with the new wine or something? Running STEAM with it I use up to 95% of 2gb of ram under nix. Thats crazy? Also when I try to open CS or CS:S they just crash, Im assuming because of such little availible ram.

4front's wiki has some decent instructions on configuring flash for OSS - I was never able to make them work, but I run x64 which is a PITA with flash even when you aren't trying to change the sound system.

Having a hard time finding it. I just find something about a libflashsupport.c code file and nothing to do with it.

You'll need to do the "Get", "Compile", and "Install" sections.
