So, I finally got around to installing Debian on my laptop, and so far I like it but I decided i wanted to dual boot with Windows XP, or even only XP for the time being, but the problem is that no matter what operating system disc I put in (any Windows XP one that i have, or any Linux one) I just get a black screen.
With the Windows cd, a message flashes saying something about "Checking your system config" but then it goes to the black screen. Now, my guess is that it might have something to do with the hard drive encryption option I selected while I installed Debian, but as luck would have it, I don't know what to do about that lol. So anyone care to tell me that I'm wrong, and hopefully be able to tell me what to do? ![]()

Your laptop likes Debian so much, it doesn't want to let it go

What windows sees: there is a hdd, I'm copying my files; oops I can't copy the files because I can't read the darn thing; I'm just gonna sleep it over to think how to do it...
On topic: if the hdd is encrypted it has a EXT file allocation system - windows can't read it. You need to partition your HDD and put the debian on one partition and leave the other partition in FAT32 or NTFS for the windows to know how to use. I have no clue how/if you can resize the partition from the current debian install without loosing all your data.

Use GParted and resize the linux partition, and format the remaining space to NTFS and see if windows cd will see it.

LOL. Anyway, I don't really mind just wiping the whole Hard Drive and starting over, since I don't really have anything on there other than the operating system itself, and since I'm still in the learning stages of Linux, reconfiguring everything can't be any harm.
For the time being, I will try to use GParted, and hopefully it won't mind the encryption lol. Edit: Yes, GParted worked great!. Thanks!
