hey guys, im having some troubles getting my PPPoE working in slack12..i've configured it using pppoe-setup, then i used pppoe-start - it connected successfully - i checked to see if it was up and running with ifconfig and it showed a good connection sending and receiving packets on eth0 and also the same sort of stuff on ppp0.
problem is i still cant use my browser or pidgin or anything...i can ping my router just fine. i had the same problems before but at the time i was on wireless. any ideas?

Do you happen to have a router? I remember trying to set up PPPoE in linux, its a massive headache. I don't remember if I really ever got it working without the router.

It sounds like maybe the PPPoE connection isn't setting your route or DNS correctly. Try adding a default route to go over that interface and adding your own DNS servers to your resolv.conf.

Thats how I had set mine up. The router took care of the PPPoE and the machines were just connected to it like normal.

That's what I'd recommend. I'm surprised you need to put in PPPoE info in at all. Every modem I've seen in the past 3-4 years has all that stuff built in.

k i think i found where to input my PPPoE info. there is a drop down box (currently set to automatic - DHCP), but has the option for PPPoE. ill wait until my dad is off his computer before i start tinkering.
