Default How To: Install your wireless usb adapter in Ubuntu

Okay well after along time of trying to work this out i finally did. So i thought i would make a guide for people you follow the same problems.

Okay you first have two choices. Either install the open source driver or use Ndiswrapper. Ndiswrapper is a program that allows a user to use windows drivers for there wireless device in Linux.

To install the your open source driver just google it. Or if you have a belkin device or a Ralink chipset you can use this web site: http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/...#Latest%20News

Personally though i found Ndiswrapper to be the most effective.
*Warning* Dont install the opensource drivers and Ndiswrapper at the same time, you will get poor internet quality and very low speeds.

Because this guide is based off of ubuntu this should be a very easy task.
*Note* If you use Mint, Ndiswrapper is already installed.

Step 1. Put your ubuntu installation disk into your drive.
Step 2. Go into the synaptic package manager and click on the either the edit or file tab and then click on Add CD. Once it is done adding the cd, click on search and type ndis. Once it finishes searching click to install Ndiswrapper.
Step 3. When Ndiswrapper is finished installing go to Systems>Administration>Windows Wireless drivers.
Step 4. Install your driver .inf file, this can be located on the cd that came with your USB adapter.
Step 5. Reboot and then it should automatically connect to your router.

*This is my first guide ever, if you think ive done something wrong or etc just let me know and ill fix it.

EDIT: You also have to blacklist the Ralink driver before continuing.

AND you also have to add to /etc/network/interfaces
