I use windows xp home with two partitions, one for windows and software and other default stuff, and another for installation files, music, videos and pictures. The windows partition (C
is 203 GB and my partition for media (H is 261 GB. There is no unallocated space on my HD. Now, I want to install either ubuntu x64 or fedora 9 on a new partiton, but I installed ubuntu once with the same setup and everything got screwed up: I lost my media partition, and It made two partitions windows would not recognize which i assumed were the ubuntu & swap partitions. How can I avoid this again?

resize your partitions. you can use software such as Partition commander to allow for resizing of existing partitions and creation of new partitions without the lose of data (provided you do not resize the partition to smaller than the amount of data on that partition)

Resize one partition from Windows, check that everything is on its place and install linux. Everything will be ok.
And don't worry, be happy ![]()
