Hey there OCN. So I'm having some trouble getting my Creative Elite Pro soundcard to work with Ubuntu. I've installed OSS, followed the guide on the Ubuntu forums. (Unfortunately, I can't seem to find that guide...), and put the OSS volume widget on my bar. However, I have no sound. No startup noise, nothing in youtube, nada. So, any ideas?
Thanks! -Suilenroc

With my X-Fi Music, I couldn't get any sound from firefox or from starting up either. But for my music player and video player I got sound to work. In the programs settings I changed the sound options to OSS and it worked.
Ill be looking into it more, but I am reformating my computer right now.

X-FIs are utter crap under Linux. Blame Creative for failing to develop proper drivers (or at the very least release specs. for the Linux sound guys). You're better off using your onboard sound.

Don't use the beta xfi drivers guys... they will destroy your distro of linux they are hella buggy. Should never have been released.

My solution was this:
__________________-Ditch X-Fi -Revert to external USB soundcard -Love Linux ![]() Needless to say, I will never buy a Creative product again. ![]()
