Well i've installed wine. I go to the terminal and try type in
wine /media/cdrom0/install.exe I hear the sound for the menu that should pop up but instead I get this error message. Error in script file SetupDat\GenDefsinsins line 17: unrecognized registry type. Any idea how to fix this?

Take a look at this page:
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=1177 I see that there is something in there about importing a registry key for installation. I dunno if you've already looked, but in the future, it's usually good to check out the App Database of wine to see what problems other people have had there. That way you can see if it's even worth bothering with.

Well, i looked through that and cant find an answer to my problem. I've tried what the other guy who was getting the same error did and didn't work.

Have you tried running autorun.exe, rather than install.exe?
Also, what version of wine are you running?

I think im running the latest version. I just updated everything today and downloaded wine from synaptic. I'll try running autorun instead of install.
On a side note, I got starcraft installed. The problem w/ starcraft is there is sound at the splash screen where you click play game, but once I'm actually in game, theres no sound.

As far as your Starcragft sound problem goes, what sound mixer are you using? I recommend setting all of the soun settings to Alsa or OSS / whatever you use.
Your sound should work just fine then.
