Interestingly enough, I put an old hard drive full of goodies (80GB) into my brother's computer to see how its health compared to the brand new hard drive in there. The old one's been around for a while and has had many read/write operations on it, yet HDD Health says it's at 100%. In comparison, the brand new Seagate (160GB) is at 75% health. Now, I'm a bit confused here. Or maybe the old drive doesn't really support SMART? It's a SATA I Maxtor.

eh I scan threw that and all I got was a headache lol I tried running my dead hdd as slave and sometimes I'm able to view it but than after a min or so it goes off where I can't view it no more....do I need to replace parts in it?

ps. error10 is 4x2GB mushkin best for our mobo? can you give me a link of what I should buy?

If the drive is physically damaged (sounds like it is) then there's little or nothing you can do, at least at home. You can try the freezer trick -- leave it in the freezer overnight, plug it in while still frozen, and immediately attempt to get as many files off as you can, until it fails. Repeat process until you have all your files or drive just won't do anything anymore. RMA.

P.S. You really should try RIP, at least if your data is somewhat important; it takes 5 or 10 minutes to figure out, but it really will recover stuff that other tools thought impossible.

Wow, I had a dream last night that my HDD failed... It was taking forever to load stuff, and when I checked the SMART status, it said it was failing.
