You can try the freezer trick -- leave it in the freezer overnight, plug it in while still frozen, and immediately attempt to get as many files off as you can, until it fails. P.S. You really should try RIP, at least if your data is somewhat important; it takes 5 or 10 minutes to figure out, but it really will recover stuff that other tools thought impossible.

One question: How do I actually get my mail spooler to send mail to my e-mail address regarding this? I set-up the config file as you outlined, but I am assuming I need to set-up the spooler somehow.
