Default How do you instal ubuntu 8.10 from usb?

I am wanting to install ubuntu on my back up rig which doesn't have a cd drive & currently have no spare avalible. Is it possible to make a flash drive boot like the cd and install from it to the primary HDD & if so how?

There is a utility in Ubuntu 8.10 called Make USB Drive or something to that effect. It should be able to do it for you. Boot off the live CD and have your flash drive in and you can make it bootable from inside the 8.10 live CD.

edit: It is called Create a USB Startup Disk and is located in Menu > Administration.

*unetbootin - Linux USB creation tool
*Burning the bootable iso to drive
*Making the usb boot linux from scratch

None of which worked

If you took all the time you have already spent trying to do it without a CD, and put it all towards searching for loose change in your couch/car/laundy room, you could have bought a $10 CD drive already with the money you found.

Maybe the distro version you downloaded is not working with Unetbootin. I had problems with Unetbootin and Ubuntu 8.04.

Yeah thanks I will check that out & if that doesn't work it looks as if I might have to purchase a new drive.
