Never heard of Dream Linux. But there are so many distributions out there that it's very difficult to keep track.

I will also suggest Ubuntu. Remember to get the 64-bit edition, not the 32-bit edition. This isn't Windows anymore.

Mint. It has everything Ubuntu has and more.

And if it's looks and special effects you're after, stick with Linux. If you set it up right, it's better than OSX in all those categories.

That's because they take Ubuntu and modify it. They have to wait for the Ubuntu version to come out, do their modifying, and by the time they're done, the next version of Ubuntu is out.

Yeah, but Ubuntu releases their 32- and 64-bit versions simultaneously! It's not that hard, just another virtual machine for a build server.

The Mint crew hasn't ever paid attention to 64-bit until the 8.04 release, so they've just gotten started with that. I think they're more concerned with getting a stable OS to the average user who likes the pretty fluff and all.
