PlayOnLinux is an interface to Wine, and it's for some people a bit easier. I personally do not see the need for it.

Yeah for some reason I thought it was a fork of wine.

When I experimented with it, it had extra .dlls etc...for different packages, but I'm fairly sure all the packages were outdated. I was just bored and installed it and saw the list of games like HOLY *****, but I was let down when it required CDs for the games.
