Yes, this is for the proprietary drivers (fglrx). Radeon and radeonhd are the open source drivers, which have limited support for your card.

after reinstalling fglrx
fglrx = X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation) Major opcode of failed request: 154 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Value in failed request: 0x1 Serial number of failed request: 24 Current serial number in output stream: 24 I reinstalled, CCC still doesn't work - but system still running fast - way faster than before. No 3D, no effects for linux themes...boo...frustrating...screw it - it's not for gaming....that's what my Vista machine and XP are for (BF2 - lost my key, can't reinstall on Vista) running good enough for me to cause trouble (trying to encrypt it now)....

Is that what fglrxinfo spits out? How did you go about uninstalling your first driver?

LOL just saw you helping people on the Ubuntu forums.... you should just build this driver yourself and get credit for it!

i followed your method, killed it from the system/hardware - then went into synaptic and all was clear... then installed..... CCC shows, but doesn't work
then installed again... same deal...

What I would do is uninstall the current driver with the fglrx-uninstall script, fire up Synaptic and search/delete any mention of fglrx, remove the /etc/ati folder if you have it, generate a fresh copy of xorg.conf (remember to configure it with the open source driver), reboot, and install again.
