Default How To: 64bit Flash Player in Firefox

Although not an official release, the "alpha" version of 64bit Adobe Flash
Player 10 for Linux is available for download. Even though this is "alpha"
pre-release, I have found that it works very well. First thing is to make
sure you have the nspluginwrapper package installed. In the Redhat/Fedora
world, an RPM query should tell you:

$ rpm -q nspluginwrapper

If it isn't already installed, run this command to install it:

# yum install nspluginwrapper.x86_64

Next, download the 64bit Flash Player from:

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

What you will get is a tar.gz file that contains the libflashplayer.so file.
Run this command to extract it:

$ tar zxvf libflashplayer-10.0.22.87.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz

Next, move the libflashplayer.so file into the 64bit Mozilla plugins
directory:

# mv libflashplayer.so /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/
# chown root:root /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
# chmod 755 /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

Now, restart firefox and verify that the plugin is installed. You can get a
listing of all installed plugins by entering "aboutlugins" in the URL
address bar and hitting enter. If all is well, you can now waste more hours
of your day viewing videos on youtube with 64bit Firefox.

Or just get Super Ubuntu...simple&easy....because it comes with Firefox+Flash, Adobe Reader, OpenOffice 3.0, blu-ray drivers that work flawlessly (blu-ray by the way is NOT officially supported by Ubuntu) (!!!) and tons of other goodies.

Also that installation will work only if you get lucky...so pray to God. And pray a lot. Me and a friend of mine tried installing it in the past and did not work very well. He still has issues while I switched to Super Ubuntu. Amazing work, kudos to the guy who made this distro publicly available..

Sorry to rain on your parade
Good guide though, thanks for sharing this.

For ubuntu atleast, installing flash was as easy as downloading the .tar.gz file, extracting to get libflashplayer.so, and doing:
Code:
mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins
cp lib*.so ~/.mozilla/plugins

man, tough crowd to please huh?

it's cool though... mainly, I was just pointing out how to get a pure 64bit firefox and 64bit flash to work. if some distros have it working out of the box in 64bit, that's great! because 64bit flash is still in 'alpha pre-release' most distros just use a 32bit version or use a 64bit-to-32bit wrapper (which can break when updates happen).
