Well I would assume most linux programs would be free. So I'm not going to label any programs that are free, but I think it is fair that Label anything that cost money and how much.

I didn't say that I was against paying for software, but Linux is so geared around free software (with the various package managers), that commerical software is almost counter-intuitive. That said, it is obvious that specialist software won't be developed as open-source, as the target market is too small compared to the work needed to make the project a reality.

awesome... setting up business PC for friend's dad for $140 (free 200 GB HDD from my work)

his "new to him" Windows 98 machine was on it's last legs... told him let's go Ubuntu.... this will help immensely

I wanna rep you bro, but I tried both IE8 and Firefox and can't see the rep buttons today. I promise I will as soon as I see them, you certainly deserve it for this helpful post!

Single core AMD @2.8, 2 GB, Micro ATX board and case... 350 watt supply - using onboard graphics... not a bad setup for $140 huh??? Dude had HD monitor that was easily 10x the worth of his Windows 98 machine that wouldn't even go up to the 1680 x1050 resolution...LOL....

That's pretty cheap man, I sold an AMD x2 2.6GHz version of that build in January for £200 I think it was! Although mine did come with a pro level sound card (albeit one of the cheapest money could buy), and a 17" CRT

Well, to add onto the list:

Pro Audio Tools:
Audacity (As opposed to Adobe Audition)
Ardour (As opposed to Adobe Audition)
Jokosher (As opposed to Adobe Audition)
Rosegarden (As opposed to Cubase) (Would also need Ardour to fully match the features of Cubase)
Linux Multimedia Studio (As opposed to FL Studio)

Also, I'm not sure if its fair to compare Geany and Bluefish to Dreamweaver. They are excellent HTML editors, but they aren't WYSIWYG, which (in my opinion) is the main draw of Dreamweaver.

Is "Linux Multimedia Studio" really like FL Studio? If so, I might be really interested in it!! What are its MIDI capabilities like?

I don't have any midi devices hooked up, so I wouldn't know. I know that there *is* support for midi, I just don't know how good it is. However, it fully supports VSTs and the like, which makes it an easy transition.
