Final Thoughts
If your a new or existing linux user. Hopefully this will help you find alternatives to the windows software you use. This list is in no way complete. So if you have anymore suggestions for software please state it in the thread.

Future Updates

This is kind of like a beta. I hope to add more features later, but first I kind of want to know if their is a need for this. I don't want to waste my time do something no one wants
If their is a need I will implement these things. If not this thread will die and thats the end of that.

Categories- To organise the thread better. So navigating through all the files is easy.
Icons- Maybe it would make the thread look better
Links- Provide links to the home page, and download page.
add more software- With the help of other members.
Spazz- This looks very boring right now I hope to add color and other things to make it more appealing to the eyes.

Nice list, I had one of these I used to use. I'll see if I can find the link (though that is where you may have gotten this stuff ). Should be very helpful to new and old Linux users alike.

One thing I think would be very helpful would be to list why each program is better/worse than the Windows version. I know some have more/less features, etc. I'm sure a lot of Linux users will be able to contribute as well.

edit: Here are three, but not the one I was thinking of:

nice list, but i feel as if this would be better as a Wiki instead of a form thread.

Can you bold the names of the Windows software? At the start the list was really confusing, I think it would really help to make the list more clear...

EDIT: Also, a couple of typos I picked on, both in Internet Software: Pidgin, not Pidgen, and aMSN, not Amsn (yea, I can be anal ).

Yeah reorganize this list. People who are newbs aren't going to be able to determine which are Linux programs and which aren't. Hell, even I had problems understanding this list.

This is a top quality effort, and could really help a lot of people out! I agree with the bold of Windows programs, just for clarity really. It would really help if people could possibly come up with other Windows programs and a few alternatives (that said, it covers most bases anyway)

Good job with the reorganization of the list.

I like the way you left out Adobe reader for Linux! I never understood why people use Adobe when there are better Linux alternatives available. Okular is what I use.

Also, Mathematica is available for Linux as well. It may also be beneficial to add whether the program is free or not.
