I've just installed LinuxMint on some recomendations and after reading up, its more tuned to what I want from an OS.

However there is 1 thing I am missing on how to do... Games!

Can anyone help or explain, or even link a guide, for setting up something to play games in linux? Be it WINE, or cedega.. I've been hearing the latter is much more stable though so I'm more inclined to try cedega right now

Also, my sound seems to be broken with PuleAudio... I know there was a fix for it by removing some line, I can't find that anymore

Never tried cedega but I've gotten WoW to work with WINE.

Start off writing this in the commandline:

 sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio

Then you've got pulseaudio out of the equation.

Gaming is fairly simple, though. Just install wine:

 sudo apt-get install wine

It installs one of the stable versions and not the development versions, which is fine for most, but not always desirable. Caedis made a nice explanation in a how-to on Linux gaming in one of the stickies.

However, a short walkthrough on how to launch a game:

wine <program>

Then you should have it running without no further setup needed, check the compatibility list on winehq.org if it does not run straight away.

Alright I went ahead and used the Ubuntu 904 repository for WINE and did the pulseaudio kill and both are working now

You guys are AWESOME! +

1 last issue: STEAM LAGGS LIKE HELLLLLLLLLL

Whats the deal? 50% CPU usage all the time?

A while back I thought I saw a Linux Distro made for WINE gaming it was Like "Ultimate Linux: Gamer" don't know if it's still being maintained or if it's even any good.

yeah, steam tends to lag...

just know that when you jump in with wine you might not necessarily get great results...

i don't know - i'm too cheap to pay

some say it's good, but then again, it is just wine with professional support... if you can afford it and it won't dent your wallet too much, why not?

alternatively you can dualboot like the rest of us

Yeah I think I am gonna go ahead and dual boot a nice chopped up version of Windows and Linux Mint

WINE is being finicky with steam, performance of games sucks when it does run, and overall I'm not too impressed with games+linux. Its good for everything else though
