Default How do I change screen res in ubuntu?

So I got my windows-lame computer running on linux to copy files and stuff. But this screen res is freakin unbearably ugly. How can I set it to 1680*1050 or if not that, the highest one below that?

I haven't used ubuntu in awhile but isn't there a Personalization option under one of the menus?

You may also have to install your drivers..to easily do that go to themes and turn on the special effects, and if you don't have them a popup will ask if you want to download them

install the drivers first. Restart, then you screen is at max res.

But you can change the res if you like w/o the drivers by going to
System>preferences>screen resolution.

Actually apparently they aren't.

It says installing but it stays at 0 percent for a second then just closes :/

Oh you should update before installing the drivers. I had a lot of issues with my GTX260 when I installed my drivers then updated.....
