Earlier this morning, I posted, in frustration, that I was getting a GRUB error, and fixed it with a post on this forum. Now that it's fixed, I need to start asking the right questions - first, what's the easiest way that I can triple-boot XP/Win7/Linux Mint?
When I installed Linux Mint originally on its own ext4 drive with its own swap drive, I received the GRUB error 17. Linux didn't even work. I looked here at an Ubuntu forum and it shows how to do it, but the post acts like everything will be fine once the install is completed. What if it isn't fine? How do I make it work once I've installed Linux Mint, and what if I get the GRUB error again? The Ubuntu forum here shows how to fix it, but I tried that when I was having the issue, and it didn't fix it. I've used Ubuntu in the past and liked it, but when I've used it, it was the only OS on the computer, so I didn't have to worry about another boot loader. I know I can just do the live cd but I'd rather install it and deal with package installation, cli, etc... so I can really learn it. I don't want to be waiting on my DVD-ROM drive all the time. Any help is appreciated

Well you need to install XP, then Win7, then Mint i would imagine. Mint should recognize the other operating systems and add grub entries, but it might not and you'll just add them manually. Make sure XP is on the first partition of whatever harddrive you install it on.

Make sure you have these entries to your /boot/grub/menu.lst: Code:
title Windows XP rootnoverify hd(x,y); makeactive chainloader +1 boot title Windows 7 rootnoverify hd(m,n) makeactive chainloader +1 boot And then reinstall grub with these instructions. Now make sure that the correct hard drive is set to boot first in your BIOS settings.
