OpenSolaris on my NAS box.

Whoever says Opensolaris 'pretty much sucks' because of random phoronix test suite benchmarks clearly have no idea what features solaris includes that linux does not have (and for some, won't ever have, NIH syndrome, GPL syndrome, etc).

I've managed SCO Unix servers at work (oooooooooooooooold POS servers.)
I prefer Linux, though I may dabble in a FreeBSD based router distro as soon as I get the second/third gigabit NIC.

I've used a few distros that have been based off FreeBSD. But I'm very much a Linux user. The existence of Ubuntu makes my life easier.

FreeBSD is my first *nix OS and I always stick with it. The Mac had some problems with its integrated IDE Controller, that's why I used NetBSD.

Those OSX users that I know who do consider themselves Unix users, went to OSX because it was Unix-like and they already had a extensive background using other Unix or Unix-like OSes...

Anyway.. good point. Though, I can't seem to modify the poll at this point to add that as another option...
OS X is more Unix than any of them -- it has actually been certified as "Unix" by those who hold the Unix trademark -- the Open Group.

However, this doesn't mean a whole lot except on paper. Many would argue that BSD, or even Linux, is just as "Unix" as OS X. It's just that BSD and Linux haven't jumped through the hoops for certification and I seriously doubt either will try.

I think because of this thread I'm going to dedicated a week to trying out FreeBSD, OpenSolaris, & then I might try a *Haxintosh just to end it.

*I've done a hacintosh before, just not on an AMD system. Which means it'll be 300% harder.
