So this sub-forum is "Linux, *Unix*" ... are there any non-Linux Unix users here?

I'm just curious... if you use some Unix/Unix-like system that isn't Linux, what is it?

I guess it doesn't usually occur to me to think of OSX as Unix... but I guess that's true in a sense. A lot of Mac people I know aren't really Unix people, or at least don't consciously think of themselves as Unix users. Those OSX users that I know who do consider themselves Unix users, went to OSX because it was Unix-like and they already had a extensive background using other Unix or Unix-like OSes...

We already have a Mac forum, so I don't think OS X counts here...

so, who is it that uses every Unix/Unix-like OS I listed in the poll? I'd like to see a picture of your setup...

I'm not (yet) hardcore enough for Unix. I've been wanting to get into Open Solaris though. Maybe some day.

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...nsolaris&num=1 I'm not a big Solaris fan in general, though I have a lot of Sun equipment and have used Solaris quite a bit, I expected Solaris to be better performing. I'm really surprised to see comparison showing Linux ahead of Solaris in several benchmarks. I haven't tried OpenSolaris yet, but this just makes me wonder why I would want to waste my time on it?

Same reason people use Solaris/OpenSolaris - it's known to be 100% bulletproof. Solaris will survive things like CPUs and RAMs dying or going bad. I'm not aware of GNU/Linux doing this out of the box. No doubt some of the HA guys have developed patches to handle it, but that stuff isn't mainline yet, AFAIK.
