Default Why wont this install?!

Okay, trying to install Solaris onto my sig, and i keep getting a series of warnings.

It just cycles through them. I'll take a pic of it later on. At work now.

2009.06, SXCE or Solaris 10?

I suggest joining #opensolaris on freenode irc, they might be helpful too.

The newest version of open solaris, 2009.06.

I am a member already, I think it has something to do with my motherboard...

I think it had very similar results with the older version too. I dont have another computer to try on.

My dad has an older version of Solaris, the real one. I may just install that on it.

I've played with OpenSolaris, and it's nice, but too bloaty for me. Granted, playing consists of installing some apps, doing some tweaking/config, bit of browsing and that, but it seems sluggish compared to Linux (well, not compared to Fedora)

That's because it's made for throughput, not being a snappy desktop. It's a server operating system. Only reason they bother with a desktop is because some people still use Sun workstations and because they want to entice developers to their platform.

I'm confused as to how it can perform badly, but well at the same time? Are you saying that the desktop is poor (it's GNOME, so Ubuntu/Mint handle it ok), but it's web/database server programs are really quick? I can't get my head round that.

If it was truly a server OS, then why stick Gnome on as the DE? Surely something like a custom Openbox, or even CLI would be the way forward?

Throughput =/= latency. For example, the stock settings for the kernel in Arch is to have a small a latency as possible. If you were to compile it with server settings (high latency, as few ticks as possible), you'd notice how horribly bloated it feels, although you'd probably notice a few more PPD if you're doing stuff like folding.

Installed fine on my NAS project parts as well, but not on my DFI Lanparty NF4 board which is a socket 939 board. It would reboot randomly, or just hang at the gnome loading screen. It might be your motherboard being such a weirdpoke opensolaris doesn't support it.

Have you looked in the hcl and on the discussion lists?
