Default set refresh rate on crt on ubuntu

Barely gotten thorugh my ubuntu problems. Im about to quit and change my fight from ubuntu back to viruses on vista. Anyways here are the problems im facing.

1. I've got a crt monitor which support 100Hertz on vista. Now on ubuntu through nvidia xserver it wont go that high. I've tried 10 tutorials on tried to edit the xorg file and no luck its write proof or something.

2. CS though wine is running badly with only 99fps instead of 100 and YES it makes a huge diff. Ive already changed my xserver setting to performance. Im going to try to run cs through virtual desktop but i couldnt figure it out either. I llok for a tut later.

3. Sound drivers. The sound in CS is horrid and i downloaded the realtek drivers and they are in tar.gz2 and ive tried 5 youtube tuts and many more online one on installing it but no luck.

What part of the xorg file are you editting? you know theres an nvidia-settings or something of the sort, correct?

It usually drops a frame. Set fps_max 101. That single one wont make much of a difference though, just turn off vsync and limit it.

tar -xvf driver* && cd driver*, you should get it from there. Im assuming youre currently using ALSA?

Try running nvidia-settings instead of editing the xorg.conf - the nVidia drivers tend to ignore most display-relevant settings in xorg.conf

I tried editing the display and nvidia xserver both only go up to 85htz. My vsync is off I think because I didnt turn it on. I dont know wat ALSA is.

Google for a xorg calculator or whatever. Theyll set you up a device line for the correct resolution and refresh rate.

Youre positive the nvidia drivers are selected correct?

Code:
gksu nvidia-settings

That should make nvidia-settings pop up with root privileges - aka you should be able to save your xorg.conf through that.

If nothing happens by doing that, try running it with sudo instead of gksu if you haven't done so.
