and yet,

It seems to me that something compatible with a windows network, which is used often in corporate and school networks, would be more painless for someone clueless to use... me thinks this was a fixation on getting vsftpd to work with YOUR (gonX) help >_>
Considering how gonX tends to help alot of people with *nix issues, I tend to give his word more weight than others.

And I didn't quite understand how hosts.allow / deny worked, so I just checked to make sure vsftpd wasn't blocked. Plus, googling 'vsftpd refusing connections' didn't turn up any relevant info other than possible bugs in the program.

That, and I already had vsftpd setup, and I've had it working before, so I didn't see any need to swap to another program if I could simply get the connection issue resolved. I'll look into Samba for future use though.

Im more than willing to help, but you have to do your part as well.

I dont have the time or patience to walk people through everything. Especially something as simple as a hosts file situation. A simple google (which I have in my sig, mind you) wouldve returned ample relevant information to fix your problem.
Dont just look at it and go '***', research it.

Edit- Heres to holding your hand throughout your lifetime.
Ah, and I actually had that included in a rant post. People are pawns to familiarity.
No disrespect to gonX, Ive no problems with him. Just tired of lazy people, and thats saying something coming from me.

Well, looks like I'm not the only one needing my hand held.

I don't pretend to be the most informed and most experienced *nix user on the planet. If I have problems, I ask around, which is exactly what I did here. I resorted to google, because I didn't know what was going on, and when google failed me, I came here. Your post 'inb4 hosts.allow' was quite helpful, especially considering how all it takes is a few more seconds and keystrokes to say something along the lines of 'Sounds like your hosts.allow file isn't setup properly.'

Then I'd head to the arch wiki and fix the problem. Please, get over yourself.

My posts assume a certain level of competence, which your response just doesnt cut.

Googling MY answer wouldve helped. Thats why I posted, for you to learn from. Completely disregarding that and searching something else isnt very helpful - now is it?
Googling "linux hosts.allow" takes me to an About page explaining in detail how to set it up and what its for.

Assuming competence and asking to have your mind read aren't the same thing.

I'm supposed to decipher that I should google 'linux hosts.allow' from a post that seems to be a troll on the surface? While the information you gave in the post may have been correct, would it have killed you to be more professional about telling me?

'search google for how to setup your hosts.allow file' seems more professional, more friendly, and less elitist.

As I said, please get over yourself. I'm sorry I can't read minds

Apology accepted. Im just sorry you were born without common sense. 'Tis a tragedy, but Im done here.

Also "inb4" is a rather common meme/joke. You couldve easily figured this or extracted the information of importance.

I'm done being trolled. Please either return to the bridge you live under or recognize that not everyone thinks the same way. I'll admit, when I read your post, the 'inb4' turned me off from it from the start. Other members [like low_strife, coma, and gonX] tend to not only put a little more effort into replies, but also go about it in a more professional manner.

Had you posted differently [IE, more professionally], I'd probably have attempted to listen to what you had to say. But using a meme/joke doesn't exactly scream "I know what I'm talking about, you ought to check this out." Had gonX said the same thing, I probably would have ignored his post as well.

I'm sorry you can't remove your head from your ass long enough to realize that as well. I'm adding you to my ignore list and un-subscribing this thread. Fare well and may your 'common sense' treat you well.
