Hey guys I'd appreciate any help to fix my son's windows install.
I used the E2180 to install Ubuntu to a 8 gig usb drive. Problem is now without the USB in all I get is a Grub Error 21 when trying to boot from his hard drive (Linux isn't installed on the HD only Windows XP Pro) So is there anyway I can fix his windows installation without doing a clean install ??? Rep + for help, thanks everyone

That's because his bootloader was overwritten by GRUB. Put your Windows CD and go to the repair session - then if you're running XP, write fixmbr and fixboot . If you're running Vista I believe you have to write chkdsk /fixmbr or something like that - not sure actually

Shouldn't matter. Put in your CD, boot from it. Press R at the first screen where you can select something (which is after it loads all the modules). Just write fixmbr and fixboot (in that order) there.

Ill tell you what gonX said is perfectly correct. Its up to you to look it up and fix it. We cant fix lazy.
On the other hand, you could just edit the grub entry to boot Windows. A quick google or example menu.lst should show you exactly how its done. Edit- gonX, you have patience far past that of mine. Haha.

there was much simpler solution there ,error 21 is caused my change of partitions and grub unable to locate it , while at grub you can press 'e' that'd take you to menu where "root (hdx,y)" , replace x and y with changed partition numbers to boot into it.
u can edit these settings permanently by editing "menu.lst" hope this helps you in future
