SO i downloaded Ubuntu from http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download
__________________but there was not Try Before installing thing (the live cd option)

The alternate CD does not have the LiveCD option.

damn can i install ubuntu without formating the hard drive

you need to download the liveCD not the alternate. And yes you can install it without reformating your hard disk.
Download the liveCD from here: http://ubuntu.osuosl.org/releases/ja...sktop-i386.iso Then once downloaded, burn it to a disc and then run Wubi off of it. That will install Ubuntu inside of windows and allow you to dual boot windows and ubuntu

If you got the regular Ubuntu .iso
Use this Application, I have used it off my flash drive, and in UNetbootin, you can select Ubuntu 9.04 LIVE, so install needed http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

Not without the LiveCD. Head to the library and burn the right iso. or borrow a friend's PC

You can mount your current harddrive and retrieve the files through the console, but if you have no actual experience with Linux (or UNIX), then I am afraid you're out of luck.
