I didnt search around for what it is too much, but im curios as to what its like.
__________________the only linux i have ever tried is ubuntu, which i didnt like because it had a diffrent boot loader than windows, so i had to go through ubuntus boot to get into vista. I was wondering if slackware is any diffrent, or if it is possible to run it through vista so i dont need to make another partition.

well windows 7 could do it. What i didnt like is that i had ubuntu on a seperate drive, upon removing that drive vista couldnt boot because it was set to boot through grub first.

You (and by you I mean Ubuntu) installed grub on the harddrive with Ubuntu on it. Had you installed in on the harddrive with Vista on it, you would have had that problem. When you install slackware (which I probably wouldn't recommend since you're new to Linux) just make sure you install grub on the harddrive with Vista on it.

)OP: What you want, is Virtualbox. Download and install this in Vista, in it you install any Linux distro you like. It'll run as an OS-in-an-OS, pretty much like XP under Win7

^im not sure if thats true but i never got it to work with grub. or was it lilo? well one of them didnt work and the other did. but window's boot loader worked great
you can use vmware to emulate a virtual machine like chemicalfan suggested. or if i can remember correctly, you use change the edit the boot.ini. forgot exactly how to do it though

I'm installing Ubuntu 9.10 in VirtualBox as I'm typing this.
It's a great OS and a great app, used them both many times (Ubuntu 9.04), I'd recommend it!

My preferred choice is to use Lilo for all the OS, but since the OP asked for a different solution, I suggested the link. The WBL call Grub or Lilo because is incapable to boot Linux, but if you prefer it isn't necessary that the chained loader (Lilo or Grub) show something. A boot loader can be configured to load a single OS without messages and without delay.
