Default I tried linux! :D

In west Barrie ontario, born and raised
On School computers was where I spent most of my days
Programming' out Designing houses' relaxin' all cool
And all making odd programs, thinking were cool
When a program we made
Which was up to no good
Crashed the raid Array in the sever room
I got broke one little server and the Admin got scared
She said 'You're Account has been disabled for the rest of the school year'

tl;dr: I accidental broke the school server and got my account disabled.
Most of my classes are Computer engineering, Architectural design (autocad), and programming. So this situation didn't look very good...
I then remembered once that i heard about linux distos that can fit on flash drives, this really caught my attention, and after reading a bit i decided to try linux for the first time. I then learned about wine, and with it i can use autocad, although im not sure about python or c++ yet. The Admin said it would be fine for me to use linux and iv'e been using it for a week now and im really loving how customizable it is, and it feels really cool going into terminal and using that to open/update programs.

I will be taking networking courses in collage next year that have a few units on linux, and i'll be sure to try different distos, and try new things, id like to thank this section of OCN in advance for all the information i may come across browsing this area, where i have never been before.

interesting.....

Either way, Welcome to Linux! If you want to dive deeper into it, and find out how your system works, you can install a minimalist distro. They come with only a kernel and a few other core packages, and have no GUI by default. You install drivers, then the X server, then the GUI. It teaches you alot about how Linux works, and how customizable it is.

EDIT: the most popular minimalist distro is Arch Linux, but if you like getting really down and dirty, you can try Gentoo.

The difference is that Gentoo has no real installer, where arch has a script that unpacks the system for you. That, and in Gentoo, you compile your own kernel.

You're kidding right? Are you asking whether or not it is possible to code in Python or C++ on Linux?

News flash: Linux is THE hacker's OS.

You can get Windows 7 on a flash drive too (or any OS for that matter -except maybe OSX?).
Install a theme that looks like Linux to make her happy, and voila.

That is quite a large flash drive then. Would need at least a 16gb flash drive, if not a 32gb.

Actually you should be able to fit it on a 4GB stick with some tweaks, if not 8gb which you can find for 15$.

edit: Link in next post

My school has an anonymous library account you can use, I would assume yours does also. There are also hacked XP editions that fit on USB. I'm just recommending this because jumping into linux for the first time for this sole reason, might not be the best best thing for you.
