I want to know the best OS for a server(going to host everything; websites, game servers...). For now i'm going to install it on my home server till i get used to it but further on it will be on a bigger server hopefully. Till now I used ubuntu, centos and redhat for these last 1 year.
If possible i would like to tell me examle if you voted for ubuntu, pls post the version you thinks it's the best example 8.04 Hardy and if you like a reason why i should use that OS. If you would like to add another OS just post(name, version, reason) it's not a problem. Thanks alot for your help.

So far from what I have seen. CentOS offers the best, but I cannot give you any comments. Ubuntu is also a great Linux version to work with as it is VERY user friendly.

Very tight call between Ubuntu and Debian, but I went Debian in the end, as it's easier to have a slimmed-down system, where all packages will be stable with one-another. x64 if you can!

Debian ftmfw. That or redhat, pretty standard.

I've used both CentoOS5, Debian Etch, and Debian Lenny. I use a debian (lenny) server nowadays. Wouldn't use any other distro server-wise. I just found it best for me personally, plus there's a lot of documentation for it, but if you're lazy lots of hosts offer pre-set up CentOS vps's.
Then again they just started up the "arch-server" project, which has the goal of developing a stable arch linux based server.

Out of those, I'd say Debian. Otherwise, Gentoo (hardened probably)

CentOS or
Fedora basically the samething.. I have worked with it extensively with both and I like both of them. I would pick CentOS as server software first though I haven't used Debian myself but I have heard its a solid distro as well Cheers
