Default Grub bootloader

What I want: Windows 7 listed first, then Ubuntu and Mint. Second, I want to remove the recovery copies from the grub boot menu. Third, I want to rename my copies of Mint and Ubuntu to "Mint" and "Ubuntu." Right now the kernel version and whatnot is everywhere.

So, is there any way to do it? Do I have to disable the Automagic kernel list (if that's possible), and do it manually?

what i do to edit the list is go into the terminal and type this
cd /
cd boot
cd grub
sudo gedit (for gnome) menu.lst
it will ask you for a password and open the program for you.

it will look something like this (mine is for openSuse so the comment lines reflect that, yours will differ)
Code:

Ok, here's what I get from sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst in Mint (where I'm assuming grub boots from; the menu.lst is blank in Ubuntu.)

Code:
# menu.lst - See: grub(8), info grub, update-grub(8)
# grub-install(8), grub-floppy(8),
# grub-md5-crypt, /usr/share/doc/grub
# and /usr/share/doc/grub-legacy-doc/.

I moved Windows 7 up to above the automagic begin, as I read it would move it up, position wise. It's above Linux now, but it's still below Ubuntu. I also changed the make memtest option to false, but it still makes one. I changed Linux Mint's name as well, but Grub doesn't reflect that.

that is your Mint linux menu.lst
you need to edit the Ubuntu menu.lst
the menu.lst you posted make no reference to Ubuntu
boot into Ubuntu or goto the partition Ubuntu is installed on and the to /boot/grub/menu.lst

That's one of the problems. Nothing shows up in Ubuntu's menu.lst.

I actually just changed my mind; I'm going to reinstall Ubuntu only. Then I'll come back with results if I have any issues. Thanks for helping!
