I just tried Ubuntu NBR and video drivers didn't work and WiFi was terrible. With XP I get 100% signal, with Ubuntu I got 15%. I'm not taking into account speed because it was running from a flash drive. I'll take a look into Kuki, thanks.

When you say video drivers didn't work are you talking about the display or are you talking about playing movies, flash, etc. ?

Ubuntu does not come with any restricted drives or codecs installed. Pull up a terminal and type this:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

It will install everything you need to play media.

How much do you know about linux? Because basically the best way to get it to run is to use a distro that basically just gives you only core packages with which to start.

The video drivers didn't work. I couldn't get the right resolution, and moving the mouse across the screen made it lag. This was live, so I couldn't download the drivers.

I've messed around with it many times, I'm comfortable using the terminal when reading tutorials.

I would stick to something well documented. I would suggest something debian-based (or debian itself). That way you can have the huge ubuntu/debian community as a valuable resource.

Personally, it comes down to how much work you want to put into it and how much you want to learn about linux/gnu. Things are a lot different, and feeling comfortable while using the terminal is important to basically all distros excluding a couple that try to do everything for you (and those distros will usually not be trying to remain very lite).
