So last night I was merrily on my way to install Windows 7. All is well, computer reboots after copying files... it starts working on the "Completing installation" step. I go AFK for a bit. When I come back, it's frozen. Repeat 3 times.
Having no XP or Vista disc at hand, I grabbed an old Ubuntu Live CD, and downloaded the latest Ubuntu. Burned it, and here I am, on Ubuntu 9.04. It works pretty well, and since the game I play most of the time now runs on Linux native (Heroes of Newerth), I might just keep it. I left 10GB of unpartitioned space to install XP later. I usually play other games for long periods of time, and then when I take a break, I don't come back to them for some hours, so no problem rebooting between sessions. So anyway, I have a few questions: 1. Holding the mouse scroll wheel and dragging the mouse to scroll in Firefox doesn't work. Can I enable this somewhere? Solved: In Firefox - Advanced -> General -> Browsing -> Use autoscrolling 2. On Windows, I used to be able to use the Realtek Control Panel to make my line out port a speaker port, so that I'd get audio to my speakers and headphones at the same time. It was super convenient because I wouldn't get the reduced volume resulting from splitting the output to two, and not have to plug stuff in and out constantly. I can't seem to find anywhere to do this here (I installed the Realtek drivers). 3. When I install Windows XP for those new games that won't run under WINE, it'll overwrite GRUB. How can I reinstall GRUB after that? Solved: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...tallingWindows 4. Alt-tabbing between apps works, but I can't alt-tab out of full-screen OpenGL apps (HoN) into the desktop. Is there some key combination to do this? Solved: You have to hold alt-tab for a second for applications that grab full screen focus. 5. On Windows, I had an AutoIt script that let me adjust volume with SHIFT+arrow keys. Is there something I can do for something like this? Solved: keyboard-shortcuts Thanks!

Clicking the scroll wheel = paste
So I'm pretty sure you can't do that

Middle click is used for pasting selected text (bypassing the clipboard), so I doubt you can use it in ff for scrolling.
as for volume adjusting, you can probably set it in the keyboard-shortcuts settings thing (don't have gnome installed to check). grub: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...tallingWindows

You can most definitely use it, because in order to scroll this way, you have to be focused on the page itself rather than an input box.
Thanks for the keyboard shortcuts thing and the Wiki link, that did it.

For #2, pulse audio might, might, do that, but I'm leaning towards no. You could always try emailing RealTek support and asking. Sometimes support will know if it's possible.

For #2, take a look at the alsamixer. You might be able to adjust a setting or 2 so that it does what you want (Realtek support is fairly good in the Kernel)
Simply go to a terminal (it's a terminal program) and write "alsamixer"
