I'm running fedora in vmware and i have a huge black border around the actual fedora working area thingy thats going to waste if i fullscreen vmware, it makes navigating webpages hard cos its all so small centred in the middle at something like a 640X480 resolution.

I typically use virtualbox and with it there are "guest addons" or additions that you install on the new os...
You select it in the virtualization software to add it on and then you should see a disc image appear on your linux desktop.... run the autorun.sh and reboot and you should have higher resolutions enabled... and autoscaling for fullscreen mode Im not sure about VMware... but I would assume they have something similar... like plugins

Managed to fix it, needed to go through the control centre and select display and change the resolution there.

In Virtualbox, it's in the hidden settings - I can't remember off-hand how to get to them, but the help file is very good and has the details. I think it's an XML file?
