In the terminal, you need to prefix your commands with "sudo", then enter your password when prompted (it won't appear on the screen at all, but it remembers the keys you press)

What is it you are trying to do exactly? Just copy/paste files? If you are trying to paste a root owned file into your /home directory (or vice versa) it won't work without modifying permissions. The easiest way to overcome this is just to use the command line:

Quote:
sudo cp /home/directory/file /root/directory/file
If you are bent on using the GUI to copy and past between root owned and user owned directories, the easiest way is to install a root service menu. Do that by typing:

Quote:
sudo apt-get install servicemenu-rootactions
Then when you right click on a folder you will see "root actions" and it will let you open the folder as root once you type in the password.

(NOTE: You will need to right click on BOTH folders and open them BOTH as root if you want to copy/paste between /home and root owned directories).

You can type this :
gksudo nautilus

Or whatever your file manager is with kubuntu.

This will pull up your file manager with root authority. Just be very careful. With Ubuntu and Nautilus you can move files between root and user directories. You can also change the owner ship of files from root to user this way.

This is not as fast as the CLI to me but it will let you do things with a GUI.

Hope this helps

This. Although I don't know what Kubuntu uses for a file manager either.
