You can download the BETA if you're that eager I doubt it's going to be drastically different to the "stable" release.

I'd guess the release time will be some time after noon for many timezones.

Well, so close, could just as well wait now... feels like I'm 5 minutes early for the shops to open, you can see all the people already behind the counters and tills ready to assist but you are left outside in the cold and rain until the security guards watch finally shows its time and only then do they open the doors... very frustrating...

Heh, I've requested a free CD but I don't know if I can wait 6-10 weeks!

I may just run the downloaded version in VirtualBox for a while and then use the Free CD to dual boot with.

Why not just burn the downloaded version to disc?

Thought it would be nice to have a Ubuntu disc with some art on it, I don't want to have to reformat the drive to use the other version when it arrives.

the disk you get in the mail should have the exact same data on it as the one you download after release date. And even if it doesn't, updates along the way will get it to the same point. Linux is modular for a reason. its not like you have to reformat to keep things totally up to date.
