Default Ubuntu intel 915m drivers

Ok i've just installed ubuntu on my work laptop because its getting old and it wasn't up running windows 7. Now after installing it i couldn't find a way to get the res over 800x600 (1280x1024 screen). I was looking on the net and found this website for intel drivers but i don't know how to install them. Could someone give me the low down on how to install them?

Many thanks for anybody who can show me how install them as i'm new to linux

Open a terminal and enter this command,
Code:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel
Then make a backup of the Xorg.conf file just in case
Code:
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
If for some reason it doesn't work you can restore the original file by entering this command,
Code:
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Next, you need to check if the driver is being used, so enter this command into the terminal
Code:
gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
and then look for this section
Code:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller"
    Driver "i810"
    Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps"
    BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection
Change Driver "i810" (or whatever else is here) to be Driver "intel" and restart.

It comes up with this when i try to install the latest version
Quote:
xserver-xorg-video-intel is already the newest version.
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
linux-headers-2.6.28-11 linux-headers-2.6.28-11-generic
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Maybe the latest version doesn't support the 915m?

Did you check your Xorg.conf file and see if it was actually using the drivers?

Yes, it shouldn't be empty though.
This is the command you need to enter in a terminal window.
Code:
gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
A window should pop up asking for your password.
Linux is case-sensitive, so make sure you capitalize the X in X11.

I've typed it out with captials (EDIT only the X) and i'm certain its right but now its coming up with this after some stuff after a debian X configuration tool and after it is this:
Quote:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection
I really don't know whats wrong and i need the full resolution by tomorrow so any help would be appreciated.
