You don't need a clean install. Also after the installation there will be a blue screen, don't restart or you will corrupt the installation.
I even made a video awhile ago about it:

yer had this screen lasted 10 mins, yer i forget to do clean istall at the begging in custom install, i always like the welcome video

OK guys... I just got my hands on a B/W G3 (300MHz) which as of now has 256mb RAM, and an ATI Rage PRO card (chip says 3D Rage PRO AGP 2x)... I've installed OS 10.3 on it, and the display is only showing 256 colors, and its all greyscale... do any of you know where I can find drivers for OS X for this card, or should I look to getting a different card?

I don't think we'll find anything... from what I've found, lots of people had the same problem, Apple had said that OS 10.3 would work with all the Blue and Whites, but turns out they didn't bother getting drivers for these video cards...
I'll probably blow it away and load up OS 9 until I can get a video card off eBay.

i have had a quick look and it says that is just the chip set so it cound be made by any manufacture, do you do what manufacture made it

I think it was originally markets as a XClaim VR Pro...
Only thing that looks like a manufacturer mark is AMC near the ATI logos... Checked around... there's a petition to have OS X drivers made for this card, so its probably a no-go for now... btw... its a hobby of mine to confuse people... sorry...
