I did a complete clean install. I booted one of my Tiger backup partitions from USB, wiped the internal SATA HDD, chose "boot from USB Mac OS X Install Disc 1," then installed from there.

Sounds like you're having a lot of problems... Do you think it could be faulty hardware?

i did a clean install i have looked around on the apple forums and no one has had them problems

must just be a faulty macbook good job i got aple care

I hear that it's a good protection plan. If you don't get it, though, then you're generally SOL. Guess I've been lucky so far

I'm hoping that if something DOES happen, it's just the HDD, cuz I kinda want to upgrade it anyway lol

it's just coming up to 1 and a half years old now so i think the normal warrtie runs out at 1 year good investment if your using your mac every day and kepping it for a long time

i have been looking around but im still not sure as to what drives will work and which will not
i know it has to be a mobile sata drive but other than that i don know what else to look for
i dont know what the max is for my system (non-santa rosa if it matters)
but i have been looking at the 250gb ones
if someone could help me with this i would appreciate it very much

For your Hard drive get either a Hitachi or a Seagate, I am using this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822145159

MacBooks have a sensor in them that will lock the hard drive on a fall. Western Digital also has this feature, this causes them to conflict with each other and result in data corruption.

Also, Newegg just got the 320gb HDD's, so if you want to risk it, you might be able to use all of the hard drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152111

but it's a uk site but it will tell you how to take your old one out and how to place the new one but if you search around for that model i'm sure you will find one in the usa
