Western Digital is the worst for MB's and MBP's. They have a lock up sensor and so do the macbooks. They will conflict with each other and cause data corruption.

For your Hard drive get either a Hitachi or a Seagate, I am using this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822145159

MacBooks have a sensor in them that will lock the hard drive on a fall. Western Digital also has this feature, this causes them to conflict with each other and result in data corruption.

Also, Newegg just got the 320gb HDD's, so if you want to risk it, you might be able to use all of the hard drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152111

The Hitachi that I posted will work fine.

I have one in my MacBook and it runs cooler than the stock Seagate. Definitely check this one out.

I think any 2.5" SATA HDD should work in the MB/MBPs. But if you get a SATA II, make sure you limit it to SATA I bandwidth, because Macs only support SATA 150 as far as I know.

I hear that Fujitsu HDDs are the quietest (that's what comes stock in the MBs.) I've actually been looking for a 7200RPM, but they're kinda expensive.

I don't think there should be anything that won't work, except the HDD motion-sensing lock feature in the WD that might conflict with the MB's that Marin told you about.

It sucks how they don't allow you to install windows on a separate drive. I'd rather install windows on an external drive and leave my internal alone.

Oh, I just thought: maybe it's because windows can't boot off USB?

Side note: Maybe I should start looking at new HDDs just in case; mine is at 19C right now

I'll get a 7200RPM so that it stays hotter

Edit: I'm still futuristic with my OSX 11.5.1

Newegg reviews say they're pretty good:
