And technically, it's not illegal. Why should they give you something again because you lost yours? That's like buying a pet rock, accidentally deleting it, then saying, "I want a new one." Although that isn't a perfect analogy since you can't really run out of copies of a song.

I agree, though; it's stupid. It's linked to your account anyway. Only you can play it. And with "iTunes Plus" songs, which are DRM free, you can make unlimited copies anyway, so why not allow us to download unlimited copies?
This is the point at which I'd pirate it.

I'd say just buy CDs. So much easier than dealing with buying from iTunes. No fighting with DRM, you can rip to any format, and if you don't like the CD you can sell it, where with iTunes if it turns out you don't like an album you're stuck with it.
iTunes was so much nicer before they opened the store.

You could technically burn the iTunes album to an audio CD. It wouldn't be good for selling to someone you don't know, though.

You can actually email Apple and say you lost all your music in an unexpected hard drive crash, in which case they will most likely reset your activations and let you redownload all your music.

Shhh. This is a secret though.
