I finally decided to get a Mac to see what the all the fuss is about. I've had extremely limited previous exposure. This was maybe a little impulsive of me. Anyway, I guess I'm in it now. I really can't make heads or tails of the operating system. I'm going to be really nice from now on when people ask me about Windows, because this is probably how they feel. Even for the really silly questions.
I just got it yesterday. I'm a little freaked out by it. The hardware seems pretty nice. The monitor is great, although this "Mighty Mouse" has to go...I can't handle that much change all at once I'd kind of like to install Vista on it. From what I understand, this 64-bit option is not currently available for the iMac, though it is on some other Macs. Since Vista Ultimate comes with both 32 and 64 bit discs, do you think it would be OK to install 32 bit, and later reinstall as 64 bit if this option becomes available? I'm talking about "OK" in terms of the Microsoft license. Or would I need to get yet another copy of Vista because I'm locked into the 32 bit version (which I wouldn't do; I just wouldn't bother with it in that case). I love my 64 bit Vista, but I can't have both of these on my desk...that's just crazy. Or is it ![]()

You can reinstall it later without worrying about the MS license. Should be fine. Since you get both versions, it's retail, and therefore you can use it as many times as you want. Just install 32 bit for now. If you run into a problem later, it's nothing a quick call to MS can't fix

mac os x is a system that you have just to use to really understand, it is the exact opposite to any windows system, but with a little perseverance you can get along with it, trust me. The mightly mouse is useless ... period, the idea is good but c****. Just find a USB mouse and replace it, (done the same on me dad's iMac).
__________________Vista 64 isn't really supported on macs, basicly there is no set drivers from apple, only some custom ones from communitys. http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/ http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/ very good first time pages on the mac os good luck with the iMac, it is really good ... i promise

1. The license issue shouldn't be an issue at all. You're allowed to install either/or, but only one install may be active at a time on one computer.
2. I've only heard crappy things about the mighty mouse. I use a Logitech USB mouse. 3. It's not hard at all to get familiar with OSX. It is, by far, the easiest OS to learn. Once you learn how it basically works, you'll love it. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to help.

Thanks, everyone...I appreciate it. I'm thinking that I may hold off on installing Vista until I get a bit of a handle on OS X. Otherwise, I'd probably always just use Vista on the iMac, which kind of defeats the purpose of having it. I just bought this book, "Mac OS X Leopard: The Missing Manual," which seems like it should be a decent introduction. I plan to do a lot of study on this over the weekend. Talk to you soon!

Transmission is good. Little Snitch - looks good, but why are there options to both download and to buy? If I download without buying, will I be getting the full version?

Thanks again for the great info. I'm progressing slowly but surely. I just discovered "Exposé" to view the various windows on the desktop. At this rate, I'll get to the apps around November
