Default Boot Camp question

I'm trying to read up as much as possible about Boot Camp before I try it, but I had a question about configuring the harddrive for the Windows and Mac sections. How much of the harddrive space should I give to each operating system? My harddrive has 600 or 800GB(don't remember which right now), and I want to install Windows XP Professional SP2. I'll probably be using Windows most of the time, but I don't want to leave the Mac side with no room for when I might need it.

Also, is there any way to change the amount of space each side has later? Thanks.

It all depends what you're doing. If you're going to play games and do everything in windows, then you're obviously gonna need to dedicate a lot of that space to windows.

How do you have a 600-800GB HDD? If you mean an external HDD, you can't install windows on it. You can only use Bootcamp on internal HDDs (unless you want to do some heavy modifications).

By default, I don't believe there is a way to change the sizes.

You can only change the size before you install it, after that it can't be changed.

Ah ok, thanks.

No, the harddrive I was talking about isn't an external one(though I do have a 500GB external as well, so it may actually have been closer to 500 instead of 600 or 800). I just wasn't sure if I could go half and half on the memory, or maybe 3/4 to Windows or something.

I just installed Vista on my iMac w/ Boot camp a couple days ago. I gave it 115GB out of 500GB. I ruminated over the number for like a week before I finally did it. From my readings of various Mac forums, the consensus seems to be (in regard to resizing your Boot Camp partition) that you image your Windows partition with WinClone, remove the Windows partition with the Boot Camp assistant, create a new partition with Boot camp assistant, and use WinClone to restore the image to the new resized partition. WinClone is fairly simple to use; even I figured it out! Knowing that I had an "out" made choosing a Windows partition size easier. Otherwise, I'd probably still be debating.

Just curious...did you recently get a Mac? You might want to play around with OS X for a while before deciding that you're going to spend the majority of your time in Windows...you may even find that you like some things about it better than Windows

Yeah, I did just recently get it(got my new monitor delivered today). Well, one of my reasons for wanting Windows is because I have several programs that can't be run on the Mac OS. Aside from that, I am of course far more familiar with Windows, with the only Mac OS exposure being my college's digital art lab.

Saw this today. It looks like it's just for increasing the partition size, though.
