Really? I think Lenovos are the only laptops that are significantly cheaper than macs with the same specs.

I won't buy one, however, unless they offer the specs I want with NO PRE-INSTALLED OS. I'm not gonna pay for a windows license that I'm not gonna use.

Agreed. I love the flexibility of UNIX via the Terminal (which is not 100% that of Linux/UNIX, of course) plus the GUI power of OSX.

Its difficult to exactly compare the two, but you have a point. I tried to spec up a 13.3" Lenovo SL300 and arrived at $1234. However, what is not captured here is:

1) 9400M 256MB vs 9300M 128MB (lenovo did not have the option)
2) 1066 DDR3 vs 667 DDR2 (DDR3 is also lower power due to lower voltage)
3) New trackpad with multi-finger gestures
4) That one single piece of aluminum. Every laptop I've had always fall apart (usually cosmetic) due to all the pieces.
5) iLife ’08 suite. There are certainly some nice apps here that you would have to pay for on a PC-based system (eg DVD authoring, iPhoto etc).
6) This one may be subjective to some, but for me the Mac OS is superior to Windows for laptop application (i.e. I wont be gaming on it).

Having said that, if I was buying a Windows based notebook, Lenovo would be my #1 choice.

Been a PC guy all my life and remain to stay that way for my desktops (although I will be adding an iMac for my photography workflow, i.e. aperture). It was really after getting the iPhone that made me take a look (which in the past I was very critical of apple without actually having owned the products), and I am glad I did.
