You have to decide whether you're going to be powerhouse computing or if you want (in my opinion) luxury software. If you want to OC your computer and play games and run RAID and the like, obviously the PC is the computer of choice. If you want a computer that works straight out of the box and requires little maintenance, get a Mac.

PS is a clunky program by itself in the first place. But the main reason it's so slow is that CS2 is a PPC program (I think CS3 is too, and maybe CS4, if it's even out for OSX). It has to be translated from PPC to x86 by Rosetta.

All preference and I have not caught the Mac bug yet. I like better hardware. I don't have problems with Windows applications so I would pick the PC.

I vote PC but do know only opinion. Also you don't game which is definitely Windows killer advantage. But don't see the applications you mention as Killer Apple apps either?

Best of luck follow your instincts.

I don't know if you can even find hardware that bad anymore

These are the specs of the best mac mini-Yeah the $800 one
(My comments are in bold)

-2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Ok. It's a 65nm C2D unlike the other macs btw.

-4MB shared L2 cache Uh huh.

-667mhz FSB Slow

-1GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300), supports up to 2GB Tiny

-120GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA Tiny and slow

- Slot-loading SuperDrive with double-layer support (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) Pretty much a standard thing nowadays

-Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory To leech off your already tiny RAM and provide mediocre graphics

-One FireWire 400 port (8 watts); four USB 2.0 ports (up to 480 Mbps); DVI output; VGA output (using included adapter); S-video and composite video output Typical.

-Built-in speakers, combined optical digital audio input/audio line in, combined optical digital audio output/headphone out The built in speakers suck

-Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T (Gigabit) Standard on pretty much every PC since 07. Nothing special.

-Built-in AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi (802.11g); built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) module The Airport needs a seperate airport base station, sold seperately

I'm not saying don't go apple. You can most certainly get a mac if you want. The Mac Mini is terrible though. Old and outdated. Apple hasn't updated it in years.

Works straight out of the box and doesn't really require any extra downloads. It's a better integrated system; it's not a bunch of 3rd party programs that are loosely connected (there are lots of 3rd party programs, but most of them integrate well into the OS).

Another one of those things that you probably don't understand if you don't use a mac as your main computer...

Get over yourself, for someone who would actually be interested in an "out of the box" experience (see: non-techie) neither one is better than the other.

OP: If you go the mac route definitely go with a hackintosh, unless you enjoy paying a premium on hardware.

What in the devil are you talking about? A mac is a hell of a lot better in this aspect.

this is the only thing i am going to directly comment on other wise those specs are the same as my laptop and it runs OS X very nicely. fast, responsive, programs and the OS start very quickly. the only real drawback here is the 950gma because it can bog down very graphical applications though i have run photoshop cs4 without a hiccup.
now on to the misleading information you posted, the airport wireless card in the mac mini can connect to any wireless network, it meets the requirements to be 802.11b/g compliant so it will connect to any router (not just the airport base station) as long as the router meets those same industry standard guidelines.
