It emulates Apple's EFI boot environment and lets you install directly from the RETAIL version of OS X. So, you can do everything a Apple computer can do, update it, etc.

Though there is a limited set of hardware that works with it, but it's mostly newer stuff and it's all listed on their website. Though, my graphics card isn't supported, but it should work, just no support from EFI-X on that. My motherboard now, will not work. So, if you want to go the Apple route, without the hardware, look into this. $189.99 + $149.99 for the stuff and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying an Apple computer. The only place that sells this I have seen is expresshd.com.

I read it in a magazine before. Theoretically it's perfect. The only downsides of this is that you have to pay $300 for the module and then you have to have one of the few gigabyte boards or a dfi board that supports it. I got my OS X installed without anything extra.

If you want to install it via the EFI-X method keep in mind those have a high resale value so you don't lose that much if you set it up and sell...

I just prefer to hack mine on there...not a huge difference for me and for the price of that unit i could purchase a used older imac....

This isn't new. It's been out and known about for over a year.

It's a nice solution, but I don't see it being worth the price. You can easily build a compatible system 100% working fairly quickly and easily.

Having it replicate EFI without emulation is awesome, but updating hackintosh is very straight forward as long as you do post-update/pre-restart permissions/kext repairs.
