Fold! Or Get Folded!
![]() |
Simple question, I Have a white macbook from mid 2008, i was wondering if any 2.5" HDD works, i was thinking of upping to the WD Black 320 GB drive. Figuring doubling my space and going from 5400 rpm to 7200 rpm would show some performance increases. And for $70 it beats buying a new macbook until quad core ones come out!
So questions are: 1. Does any 2.5 HDD work? 2. I have time machine back-ups can i just install the HDD then restore it all to it? Thanks

What drive would u guys suggest for $80? the Seagates times seem to be faster by newegg's specs. But ive only heard nothing but good stuff about WD black drives.
Thank you guys! i love OCN for this reason!

I highly recommend that you use CCC to clone the drive. I recommend the Seagate 7200.4 RPM drives. You can get a 320GB for $80. If you want a slower drive, get a WD; at this point, I think Seagate is making the better drives.

I've seen the WD 2.5" drives as being more reliable (I've seen 1 Seagate fail, no WD), but really either is good. Using CCC to make a complete clone is safer that using TM backups.

I still recommend the Seagate 7200.4 RPMs. Better access/seek times, lower power consumption. Like any brand new HDD, backup once or twice a day (at least) for a few months in case something happens.
